Uzbekistan Plans Regular Flights to Sokh District

Uzbekistan plans to launch regular flights to Sokh district in the Ferghana region as part of a 2026–2028 development program aimed at improving transport links.

Uzbekistan to Introduce Regular Flights to Sokh District

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The government of Uzbekistan is set to establish regular flights to the Sokh district in the Ferghana region, utilizing Cessna 208 Caravan and L-410 aircraft, as reported by the regional administration, referencing a presidential decree focused on the socio-economic advancement of the district for the years 2026–2028.

The announcement indicates that an additional 13 hectares of land will be designated for the airport to facilitate the growth of air travel services.

Plans include the expansion of the runway and airfield, which will enable the commencement of regular flights and the introduction of new routes based on passenger demand.

The resolution also outlines initiatives to enhance the district's transportation accessibility. Regular public transport services will be initiated from Sokh to various cities and districts, and the number of registration counters at border crossing points will be increased twofold. Authorities anticipate that these changes will lead to shorter border crossing times.

This document aims to bolster the socio-economic development of Sokh district from 2026 to 2028, with a focus on increasing employment and fostering business growth through more effective utilization of available resources and opportunities.

As previously mentioned during a meeting led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in April regarding the development of Sokh district, the Uzbek exclave has historically struggled with limited transport and logistics connections and weak economic relationships with the rest of the nation.

The statement highlights that the enhancement of regional cooperation, the establishment of new roads, and the simplification of border crossing processes have opened up further opportunities to strengthen transport and economic links.

During the meeting, the president directed officials to enhance transport connections between Sokh and other regions and to expedite border crossing procedures.
