Uzbekistan pays $27.7mn in household solar subsidies in 1H26

Uzbekistan disbursed more than $27.7 million (UZS 330.8 billion) in government subsidies during the first six months of 2026 to individuals generating electricity with home solar panels and feeding it into the national grid, the Tax Committee reported.
Approximately 68,600 people benefited from these payments between January and June.
Residents of the Bukhara region received the largest portion of these subsidies, totaling over $5.1 million (UZS 61.9 billion). The Khorezm region followed with more than $5 million (UZS 60.5 billion), while the Kashkadarya region received over $3.1 million (UZS 37.3 billion).
These payments are part of the government's "Solar House" initiative, designed to incentivize households to produce renewable energy and contribute surplus electricity to Uzbekistan's integrated power system.
Through this program, individuals who install solar panels at their residences are granted a subsidy of UZS 1,000 for each kilowatt-hour of electricity they generate and supply to the national network. This subsidy framework has been active since April 1, 2023.
Earlier in the year, a temporary halt in subsidy payments for citizens who had installed solar panels and supplied electricity to the grid drew public criticism. On July 2, the Tax Committee confirmed that payments for electricity supplied during April and May 2026 would be made to eligible participants.
The committee stated that subsidies can be directly deposited into recipients' bank cards using the "Transfer to Card" feature, accessible within the "Solar House" section of the "Cashback and Benefits" service in the "Tax" mobile application.
