Uzbekistan has developed a laser system to destroy drones.

A laser system designed to destroy unmanned aerial vehicles has been developed in Uzbekistan.
Young engineer and inventor Ikromjon Muidinjonov presented his project, ARGUS-SYS, a counter-drone system, at the national competition "Kelajak Muhandislari" (Drone Countermeasures). The system's primary function is to automatically detect and neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles.
"I developed a domestically produced Argus turret. It operates entirely using artificial intelligence and is capable of monitoring airspace 24/7, without human intervention," explained Ikromjon Muidinjonov.
According to the project's creator, the system uses the YOLOv8 AI algorithm and optical technology to detect and track unmanned aerial vehicles. A 500-watt laser with a wavelength of 405 nanometers provides pinpoint target impact.
"ARGUS-SYS is capable of detecting and neutralizing unmanned aerial vehicles at a range of over 1 kilometer." "The system is designed to protect against various types of drones, including FPV (unmanned aerial vehicles) and fixed-wing aircraft," the developer stated.
According to Ikromzhon Muidinzhonov, this development will be more cost-effective than using expensive missiles to shoot down inexpensive drones. Similar systems are being developed in the US, Russia, Israel, and Ukraine, but their cost is significantly higher.
