The Senate approved the Law on General Product Safety

At its 18th plenary session, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) approved the Law "On General Product Safety." This legislation aims to reform the technical regulation system, improve product safety, and strengthen consumer protection, according to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the session, it was emphasized that the development of e-commerce, the expansion of cross-border trade, and the growing product range require the implementation of new approaches to ensuring product safety.

The document was developed taking into account the provisions of the World Trade Organization Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade, as well as international practice.

The law stipulates that all products entering the domestic market must comply with safety requirements. Manufacturers, importers, and other economic operators are directly responsible for ensuring product compliance with established standards.

Furthermore, economic operators are responsible for product risk assessment, maintaining technical documentation, product identification, processing consumer complaints, and removing hazardous products from the market.

The law also introduces a risk-based market surveillance mechanism and creates a national information exchange system for the prompt identification of hazardous products and their removal from circulation.

According to the senators, the adoption of this law will contribute to the protection of public life and health, enhance the competitiveness and export potential of domestic products, align the technical regulation system with international standards, and strengthen consumer confidence in the market.
