Tashkent to build four symbolic gateways to boost tourism

Tashkent is set to construct four emblematic gateways at key entry points to the capital by December 2027. This initiative, mandated by a recent presidential decree, aims to enhance tourist numbers and bolster the city's allure as a cultural hub.

The designated locations for these gateways are the Rohat, Bektemir, Erkin, and Uch Qahramon entry points.

Per the decree, the Tashkent city administration, the Tourism Committee, and the Cultural Heritage Agency will oversee the project's execution.

These gateways are envisioned as iconic structures that will greet visitors to the capital, simultaneously contributing to broader endeavors to upgrade Tashkent's tourism infrastructure and urban aesthetic. The project's completion is slated for the close of 2027.

This undertaking builds upon prior suggestions to reinstate Tashkent's historical gates at their original sites and convert them into tourist draws. Historically, Tashkent featured 12 city gates, which functioned as primary access points to the fortified city. Earlier proposals had contemplated rebuilding these gates and integrating them into the capital's cultural and tourism framework.

The gateway project is one component of a comprehensive set of measures sanctioned by the presidential decree concerning Tashkent’s socioeconomic development for the years 2026–2027.

The same decree also stipulates that 35 markets, trade complexes, and associated commercial properties in Tashkent will be made available via public auctions. Investors acquiring these sites will be obligated to develop contemporary eco-markets, commercial and service amenities, entertainment venues, and multi-story parking facilities.
