Tashkent Sets Fee Caps for Vehicle Towing and Storage
Tashkent has introduced capped tariffs for vehicle towing and impound storage to protect drivers from unreasonable charges.
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) – The city of Tashkent has introduced new limits on the fees that can be charged for towing and storing vehicles. These maximum rates, approved by Tashkent City Khokim Shavkat Umurzakov, aim to bring greater clarity to the system and prevent excessive charges.
The Traffic Management Center stated that this decision supports ongoing initiatives to foster a secure and well-organized urban landscape, ensuring that sidewalks and pedestrian areas remain unobstructed for walkers.
Under the newly sanctioned regulations, the charge for towing and transporting a vehicle via specialized equipment is capped at 20% of the basic estimation value (BEV) per kilometer. For vehicle storage at an impound lot, the daily fee is set at 20% of the BEV.
However, the cumulative cost for towing a vehicle to an impound lot cannot surpass four times the basic estimation value.
The Traffic Management Center highlighted that establishing these standardized maximum tariffs will enhance the system's clarity and transparency, safeguard citizens from unwarranted expenses, and create consistent guidelines for all parties involved.
Previously, a variety of private companies offered vehicle towing services in the capital, and their pricing was not subject to city-level regulation.
In early June, Tashkent Khokim Shavkat Umurzakov had announced intentions to procure 120 tow trucks for the capital and to implement a unified system for the towing and storage of vehicles belonging to owners who have violated traffic regulations.
The Traffic Management Center underscored the importance of vehicles not impeding pedestrian flow by obstructing sidewalks, crosswalks, or other public areas. Adhering to these stipulations is crucial for developing a pleasant urban environment, as per the center.
