Life expectancy for South Korean women could exceed 90 years by 2030.

By 2030, the average life expectancy for women in South Korea could potentially exceed 90 years.

This conclusion was reached by researchers from the University of Auckland in their publication for The Lancet.

According to the study, the probability of this figure exceeding 90 years is 57%, with a 90% probability of exceeding 86.7 years. According to mathematical modeling covering 35 developed countries, the life expectancy of South Korean women will reach 90.8 years by 2030, placing the country first in the world, ahead of France, Spain, and Japan. Experts cite universal health insurance, which has been in place since the late 1980s, effective cardiovascular disease control, low smoking rates among women, and low obesity rates as key factors behind this growth.

In 2023, life expectancy for women in South Korea reached 86–87 years. However, the country maintains the lowest birth rate in the world, placing additional strain on the pension system and social security.
