The Japanese Immigration Service has deported an Uzbek citizen who remained in the country illegally after his student visa expired, according to the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to the diplomatic mission, the citizen arrived in Japan on a student visa but remained in the country without legal grounds after it expired. He was subsequently detained by Japanese authorities and deported at government expense.
The embassy reminded that student visas are issued exclusively for educational purposes and do not grant employment rights.
The diplomatic mission warned that if illegal stay or illegal work is detected, strict measures will be taken against the offenders, including detention, placement in an immigration detention center, and subsequent deportation. Furthermore, the Japanese government forwards information about violators to the government of Uzbekistan, so appropriate measures may be taken against such individuals upon their return home.
The embassy also urged citizens to exercise caution regarding offers of work in Japan on a student visa and to not trust such claims.
Furthermore, the diplomatic mission refuted the common misconception that applying for refugee status allows one to remain in Japan for an extended period or work in the country. The embassy emphasized that using the asylum procedure for such purposes is unacceptable. If refugee status is denied, the foreign citizen may be placed in an immigration detention center or deported.
It is also noted that providing false information or using fraudulent means when applying for refugee status may have serious legal consequences.
