Authorities Deny Rabies Outbreak Rumors in Kashkadarya
The Kashkadarya regional health department has denied social media rumors of a family rabies outbreak in the Kitab district after one man died following contact with a fox.
Authorities Refute Rabies Outbreak Claims in Kashkadarya
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Health Department of Kashkadarya Region has dismissed rumors circulating on social media about three supposed rabies cases within a single family in the Varganza mahalla of Kitab District.
The department reported that a resident of Kitab District, born in 1979, was admitted to the hospital on July 10, 2026, with a suspected highly dangerous infectious disease. An epidemiological investigation indicated that the individual had been scratched by a fox cub about a month earlier.
Despite receiving medical care, the patient passed away on July 11, 2026. A forensic medical examination has been initiated to determine the precise cause of death.
As a precaution, three additional residents from the area underwent medical evaluations. The regional health department stated that these individuals exhibited no clinical signs of rabies. They are currently being monitored and are receiving a course of preventive vaccinations.
The department emphasized that the epidemiological situation in Kitab District is fully under control. Monitoring efforts are being conducted in collaboration with specialists from the health department, the Service for Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-being and Public Health, and the veterinary service.
The health department urged the public to remain calm and to avoid disseminating unverified and false information on social media.
