Yandex Maps has launched indoor navigation in Tashkent and Samarkand airports and shopping malls

On the eve of the start of the autumn tourist season, the ability to build routes inside Tashkent and Samarkand airports and major shopping malls has appeared in Yandex Maps for the first time. This feature will help locals and tourists find their way faster in unfamiliar buildings, easily locate the required gate at the airport, and the desired store or restaurant in a shopping mall. Routes are built taking into account building floors, passages, stairs, elevators, and escalators.

Such an opportunity is especially relevant at a time when the flow of tourists is increasing in the autumn season. According to the National Statistics Committee, 7.75 million tourists visited Uzbekistan in the first seven months of 2026. This figure is 22.6 percent higher compared to the same period last year. The growth in tourist flow is also reflected in Yandex Maps usage statistics. For example, during the summer months, Tashkent and Samarkand airports and shopping malls — key points on tourist routes — were searched on Yandex Maps on average nearly 40 percent more per day than last year.

In Tashkent, it is now possible to build routes inside the Islam Karimov International Airport, as well as five popular shopping malls: Tashkent City Mall, Samarkand Darvoza, Riviera Mall, Compass, and Atlas Chimgan.

In Samarkand, users can find their way faster inside Samarkand International Airport, as well as three major shopping malls: Family Park, Makon Mall, and M. Baraka.

A route can start from the street and continue inside a building. For example, a user can build a path from a nearby bus stop to a specific store or restaurant. Yandex Maps will show the appropriate entrance to the building and then guide them to the desired point inside the shopping mall. The service will also help find the nearest elevator or escalator, or return to the exit to the parking lot.

To build a route inside a building, the user needs to select their current floor, determine their location, and indicate the destination point. If there are several ways to reach the destination, the service will offer different route options.

Navigation at airports will help passengers find their way faster inside the terminal and locate the required gate. To build a route to a gate, it is enough to find the desired gate on the map, press and hold the point, and select the "To here" button.

To launch the feature, floor-by-floor diagrams of the buildings were updated, and the locations of entrances, passages, stairs, elevators, escalators, and other objects were clarified. Route-building algorithms take into account the floors of buildings and allow building routes even between points located on different floors.

In the future, the list of objects in Uzbekistan where indoor routing is possible will be expanded.
