Yamal named La Liga's best player
Barcelona striker Lamine Yamal has been named La Liga's best player for the 2025/26 season by the Spanish Footballers' Association. It was the 19-year-old's second consecutive win. He received the award at a ceremony in Madrid.
After the award ceremony, Yamal spoke to reporters in the mixed zone. He shared his thoughts on winning the award, touched on a number of topics related to Barcelona, as well as his current form and the goals he wants to achieve with the team.
"We want to win all the trophies. That's the most important thing for us," said the Barcelona striker.
When asked if Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez would be a good fit for Barcelona before the summer transfer window closed, Yamal replied:
"We're doing well right now, you can see that. We're scoring enough goals. He's a great player, obviously, but I'm very happy with our squad."
Yamal also didn't give a clear answer to the question of whether Barcelona's attacking trio is stronger than Real Madrid's.
"It's not a question of competition. But we want to win all the trophies," said the Spanish talent.
The winner was determined by a vote of professional players. They recognized Yamal as the best player of the past season. The importance of this award is that it is an assessment of his colleague by players playing at a professional level.
For information, Yamal won the 2026 World Cup with the Spanish national team. The Red Fury managed to defeat top teams such as Portugal, Belgium, France and Argentina on their way to the championship.
