Women in rehabilitation centers will be able to restore documents without fees and receive legal assistance

Women in rehabilitation centers after experiencing violence have received additional guarantees: legal aid has been expanded for them, and they have been exempted from part of the state fees when recovering documents. Muhabbat Zakhidova, director of the Tashkent Regional Center for Rehabilitation and Adaptation of Women, told a Podrobno.uz correspondent about how this system works in practice.

According to Zakhidova, a victim can stay at the center with her minor children for one to six months. An individual program is developed for each woman: a psychologist, a lawyer, and a social worker work with her. Those who do not have a job or a profession are assisted with employment and training, while their children are placed in schools or kindergartens.

"A woman is not always ready to reach out herself. Here, the involvement of third parties is very important. These can be neighbors, relatives. Someone has to reach out. For years, a woman subjected to humiliation and violence lives in this environment. She needs to be taken out of it," she says.

Over the past year, the capabilities of the centers themselves have also expanded. Their employees have received the right to represent the interests of victims in courts. A working woman can retain her job during her stay at the center, and a temporary disability certificate is issued for her. In addition, women have received a number of benefits when paying state fees and recovering documents.
