Full information about the "Mother's House" center, which provides assistance to homeless mothers and children

The "Mother's House" project has been implemented in Uzbekistan since 2024 by the branch of the "Dom Mamy" International Foundation on the basis of a memorandum of cooperation with the National Agency for Social Protection.

The project aims to prevent social orphanhood, keep children in their families, and create conditions for women with children to overcome difficult situations and start an independent life. Currently, 9 "Mother's House" resource centers are operating in Uzbekistan. These centers are able to provide dozens of women and their children with safe shelter at the same time. The reception capacity is adjusted depending on the need. There is a high demand for such centers in regions with a dense population and a large number of families in need of social protection. Today, there are 2 centers in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Andijan, Chirchik, Kuvasoy, Nukus and Termez.

According to the project organizers, the "Mother's Home" primarily accepts pregnant women and mothers (aged 16–40) with children under six years of age who are in difficult life situations. The main criterion is the risk of separation of the child from the mother.

In cases where places are limited, priority is given to the following categories of women:

* victims of domestic violence;

* homeless women;

* mothers with a newborn baby in difficult situations;

* families at risk of social orphanhood.

Each application is assessed individually by specialists.

Women usually live in the center for up to 6 months. If necessary, this period can be extended.

An individual rehabilitation plan is developed for each woman. It includes:

* restoration of documents;

* psychological support;

* legal advice;

* vocational training;

* employment;

* assistance in placing children in kindergarten and preparing them for independent living.

Among the women there are also undocumented people. In such cases, specialists of the "Mother's House", in cooperation with state agencies, provide legal and practical assistance in restoring passports, ID cards, PINFL, birth certificates and other necessary documents.

Among the women using the services of the "Mother's House", there are also minor mothers.

The center can also accept minor mothers who are pregnant from the age of 16 or have children under the age of six.

In such cases, work with them is carried out in cooperation with guardianship authorities, health care, education and law enforcement agencies. They are provided with a safe place to live, psychological support, legal protection, comprehensive assistance in continuing education and developing parenting skills.

Often, women whose children are at risk of being placed in state institutions (welfare homes), women who are victims of domestic violence, homelessness, poor financial situation, pregnant or left alone with a newborn baby, and mothers who have been rejected by their loved ones are accepted to this center.

As a result of the provision of shelter, food, psychological, legal and social assistance by the "Mother's House", children remain with their families.

The main problems of women who apply to the centers are domestic violence, homelessness, unemployment and economic hardship, lack of documents, lack of support from relatives and single motherhood.

Often these problems occur simultaneously.

Social monitoring is continued with each woman who leaves the "Mother's House" center. Coordinators regularly contact them and monitor their living conditions, employment, the status of their children and their family situation.

Since 2024, the fate of more than 200 women and 265 children who have received assistance under the project and their families has been monitored. Today, many women have returned to independent life, found work or reconciled with relatives. The most important result is that their children remain in their biological families and social orphanhood is prevented.

43 women have been provided with employment within the framework of the project. Women have been placed in sewing, trade, catering, assistant cooks, beauty salons, manufacturing enterprises, the service sector and office work. In addition, women have the opportunity to study at vocational courses and start their own businesses.

The center’s activities are carried out with the support of private donors and partners.

The fund is also developing cooperation with international donors, entrepreneurs and other sources not prohibited by the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The fund is always open for cooperation.

On July 27, the ninth "Mother's House" resource center of the Dom Mamy International Foundation branch in Uzbekistan was opened in the city of Termez, Surkhandarya region. With its opening, the project began operating in the south of the country for the first time - now comprehensive assistance for women with children who find themselves in difficult life situations is also available in this region.

The new center in Termez provides its beneficiaries with temporary safe housing, food, psychological, legal and social assistance, expert advice, as well as assistance in restoring documents, getting education and finding a job if necessary.
