Winners of the 5th "Zakovat-Gambit" tournament are competing for a prize pool of 620 million soums
In order to make this year's competition even more wide-ranging and to create opportunities for all chess enthusiasts, two different qualification systems were introduced for the first time: face-to-face matches were first held in all 14 regions of the republic, followed by additional qualification games organized on an online platform.
In the final matches taking place at the "Zakovat Arena" building, participants are divided into five groups according to their levels and are playing for a total prize pool of 620 million soums. The winners in each group will be awarded cash prizes of 50 million soums, second place will receive 30 million, and third place as well as the strongest female participant will each be awarded 20 million soums.
Additionally, a special award of 10 million soums each will be presented to the youngest participant of the competition, 8-year-old Mustafa Pulatov, and the oldest participant, 63-year-old Grandmaster Toir Vohidov. Another noteworthy aspect of the tournament is the participation of famous national team members such as Jahongir Vohidov, Afruza Hamdamova, and Umida Omonova.
World chess stars invited as prestigious guests — Grandmasters Peter Leko and Humpy Koneru — held simultaneous exhibition games against our young athletes. They particularly emphasized that chess is developing very rapidly in our country and that the enthusiasm in the eyes of the youth left a strong impression on them.
The award ceremony for the final winners in all groups will be held solemnly on October 30 at the "Uzbekfilm" pavilion.
