Why is using your phone immediately after waking up harmful?

**Why is using a phone right after waking up harmful?**
Checking the phone, reading messages, and social media updates as soon as one opens their eyes in the morning has become a common habit for many. However, doctors say that loading the brain with a large amount of information in the first minutes after waking up has a negative impact on the nervous system.
When a person wakes up, their body gradually transitions from a state of sleep to a state of active alertness. If social networks or daily news are read during this process, the brain receives excessive stimulation.
"After waking up, the nervous system transitions from the sleep state to the active alertness phase. As a result of a person diving into news, work messages, or social networks during this process, the body receives many external stimuli that prevent the calm activation of the nervous system. Starting the day with anxious or conflict-ridden content has a negative impact on this state," experts say.
Using a smartphone immediately upon waking up does not directly cause serious illnesses such as hypertension (high blood pressure) or a heart attack. However, because of the phone, a person may stay in bed longer, consequently skipping breakfast and reducing physical activity.
Chronic lack of sleep, a sedentary lifestyle, and morning information overload together place an additional burden on the cardiovascular system.
"Using a phone first thing after waking up does not directly cause hypertension, a heart attack, or other serious illnesses. However, if this habit is accompanied by chronic lack of sleep, constant stress, and physical inactivity, the situation changes. For people with high blood pressure, starting the day with information that causes strong emotional stress is not recommended."
According to statistical studies, the rate of falling into depression among people who actively check social networks after waking up can be twice as high as those who use their phones minimally. Although this habit is not the main direct trigger of depression, it is considered one of the factors that negatively affect a person's general psychological state.
To reduce the information load on the brain, experts recommend following these simple rules: do not pick up the phone for the first 10–15 minutes after waking up.
Spend this time on simple tasks: getting out of bed, washing up, drinking a glass of water, airing out the room.
Only after this, proceed to checking messages and notifications.
Such a simple daily habit helps to start the first minutes of the day without anxiety and in an orderly manner.
