A video showing the demolition of the former Toqimachi stadium, located on Shota Rustaveli Street in the Yakkasaroy district of Tashkent, has caused widespread discussion on social networks. Kun.uz has investigated the situation.
**The stadium does not belong to the state**
The cadastral agency informed Kun.uz that the former Toqimachi stadium is the property of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan. Located at 5a-Kushbegi Street, Yakkasaroy District, Dilbulok MFY, this playground, which includes a land area of 35,753 sq.m., has been registered in the name of the “Yakkasaroy Sports and Recreation Complex” LLC, founded by the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, based on relevant documents, and the rights to the land and buildings have been registered.
**What will happen in place of the stadium?**
On August 28, the UFA leadership announced that no other facility will be built in place of the “Toqimachi” stadium, and the stadium itself will be renovated.
The Inspection for Supervision in the Field of Construction and Housing and Communal Services informed Kun.uz that permission has been granted to carry out construction and installation work in this area.
"The construction of a 5-story parking lot, a 4-story utility facility, shopping malls, a stadium and a spectator stand, and a 2-story underground parking lot is planned in the area. This project has been approved by the council under the Ministry of Construction and has passed the inspection list," the construction inspection told Kun.uz.
An official from the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan told Kun.uz that the work in the area does not involve demolishing the stadium, but rather reconstructing it and improving its infrastructure. After the renovation, comfortable conditions will be created for guests and spectators during sports competitions held at the stadium.
