Pipeline carrying waste ruptures at AMMC plant in Tashkent province

Yesterday, a significant pipeline at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex's (AMMC) Copper Concentration Plant burst, drawing considerable public notice after video of the event circulated on social media.

The AMMC press service reported that the rupture took place on August 5 at 11:55 a.m. on a primary pipeline that feeds into the Copper Concentration Plant's tailings dam. Plant engineers and technical experts were dispatched to the location without delay, where they successfully mended the line and brought the leak under control.

The Tashkent Province Department of Ecology and Climate Change verified that its Environmental Monitoring, Climate Change, and Anti-Desertification Department has initiated an inquiry. Laboratory personnel have gathered samples of soil and liquid from the vicinity of the facility to evaluate potential pollution.

Regional environmental authorities indicated that appropriate legal and regulatory measures will be decided upon once the conclusive laboratory findings are available.
