Uzbekistan–Japan Center Starts Operations in Bukhara

The opening ceremony of the Uzbekistan–Japan Center, which will serve to develop cooperation in education, science, innovation, and cultural-humanitarian spheres between Uzbekistan and Japan, was held at Bukhara State Technical University.

The event was attended by the Hokim of Bukhara Region Botir Zaripov, Rector of Bukhara State Technical University Sadoqat Siddiqova, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan Kenji Hirata, Embassy Counselor Kuriya Sutaki, Director of the JICA Uzbekistan Office Mamoru Sakai, JICA Project Formulation Advisor Naomi Abe, Co-chairs of the Uzbekistan–Japan Center Hiroo Iwazaki and Alisher Azizovich Paygamov, Center Coordinator and JICA Representative Heizo Nakamura, National Coordinator of the Center Ulugbek Akhmadovich Azamov, Professor of the University of Tsukuba Wakana Yamaguchi, Japanese Language Professor Shoko Takada, Director of the Bukhara City Branch of the Center Shahrukh Kamolovich Mahmudov, and other guests.

The center's activities will primarily focus on expanding new opportunities for youth. It is intended to create conditions here for studying the Japanese language and culture, exchanging international experience, participating in scientific and innovative projects, as well as gaining new educational and professional opportunities.

The opening of the center is assessed as a new stage in developing Uzbekistan–Japan relations and expanding cooperation between the educational and scientific organizations of the two countries.

As part of the Japanese delegation's visit, Kenji Hirata also met with the Hokim of Bukhara Region Botir Zaripov. During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of ensuring population employment, developing entrepreneurship, creating new jobs, implementing mutually beneficial projects, and expanding bilateral cooperation.

The Japanese delegation was also introduced to the operations and facilities of the new building of the Bukhara Region Hokimiyat.

Additionally, a tour of the historical and cultural sights of Bukhara was organized for the delegation led by the Japanese Ambassador. The guests got acquainted with the city's architectural monuments and the historical atmosphere shaped over centuries.

The Japanese guests showed particular interest in Bukhara's history as one of the centers of science, education, craftsmanship, and trade on the Great Silk Road. During the tour, the delegation also familiarized themselves with samples of national craftsmanship, traditional applied decorative arts, and features of ancient architecture.

The opening of the Uzbekistan–Japan Center, the meetings of the representatives of the two countries, and the cultural program became part of the process of further developing friendly relations, educational, and cultural exchange between Uzbekistan and Japan.
