Uzbekistan won gold and silver at the Grand Slam in Lausanne.

Uzbekistan achieved significant success at the Grand Slam tournament in Lausanne, winning gold and silver medals in the 90 kg weight class. The final of this prestigious competition was an all-Uzbek affair, with Nurbek Murtozaev and Umar Bozorov vying for the top prize. Both judokas demonstrated outstanding skill throughout the tournament, securing two gold medals for their country, according to the official website of the International Judo Federation (IJF).

Nurbek Murtozaev, ranked 20th in the world before the tournament in Lausanne, already holds silver at the 2025 Asian Championships and bronze at the home Grand Slam in Tashkent. Previously competing in the 81 kg weight class, he also won silver at the 2023 FISU World University Games. The final in Lausanne was his first Grand Slam tournament.

Umar Bozorov, ranked 23rd in the world before the competition, won the 2025 Grand Slam in Tbilisi and then took silver at the Grand Slam in Ulaanbaatar.

The final bout between the two well-known national team partners was closely fought for many minutes. However, Bozorov managed to counterattack, placing Murtozaev cleanly on his back and earning an ippon, earning him the gold medal.

After his victory, Bozorov shared his emotions: "I'm very happy to have won my second Grand Slam title, and I want to express my deep gratitude to all my coaches and everyone who supports me. The World Championships in Baku next month are coming up. We will do everything possible to win and have the national anthem of Uzbekistan played in honor of our country. The arena and atmosphere here in Lausanne were truly amazing. A huge thank you to all the fans."

In addition, Ernazar Sarsenbayev also won bronze for Uzbekistan in the 100 kg category, defeating Japanese athlete Tetta Hamada.

Uzbekistan's team ultimately finished the tournament with five medals: one gold, two silver, and two bronze.
