Uzbekistan won a historic medal in swimming at the Youth Olympics in Dakar

Swimmer Muhammadismoil Rakhmonov brought Uzbekistan its first medal of the IV Summer Youth Olympic Games in Senegal. He won the bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke. This award was the first in the country's history in swimming at the Youth Olympics.

In the final race, Rakhmonov clocked a time of 2 minutes 15.79 seconds. Gold was won by Japan's Iori Miyazaki, who completed the distance in 2 minutes 12.33 seconds. The silver medal went to Lithuania's Domas Vilimas, who finished with a time of 2 minutes 13.50 seconds.

The Uzbekistani's historic achievement was specifically noted by World Aquatics, the international governing body for water sports. Prior to Rakhmonov's performance, swimmers from Uzbekistan had never reached the podium at the Youth Olympic Games.

The competitions in Dakar are taking place from October 31 to November 13. Uzbekistan is represented by 19 athletes across 11 disciplines. Rakhmonov is also entered in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events.

In July, Rakhmonov became the Asian age group champion in the same event. At the competition in Bangkok, he took gold with a result of 2 minutes 16.17 seconds.
