Uzbekistan to increase wind power capacity to over 10 gigawatts by 2030

Uzbekistan intends to increase the capacity of wind power plants to more than 10 gigawatts by 2030
Under identical conditions, wind power plants in Uzbekistan are capable of generating approximately 1.4 times more electricity than solar power plants. By 2030, the authorities plan to bring the total capacity of wind power plants in the country to more than 10 gigawatts.
This is due to the amount of time the plants operate at full capacity. On average, under the conditions of Uzbekistan, wind power plants can operate for about 3.2 thousand hours per year. For solar plants, this figure is approximately 2.3 thousand hours.
In other words, with the same capacity of 1 megawatt, a wind power plant is capable of generating about 1.4 times more electricity per year than a solar one.
Against this background, Uzbekistan plans to significantly increase wind generation. By 2030, its total capacity should exceed 10 gigawatts.
New plants and high generation will make wind energy one of the key areas in the structure of Uzbekistan's renewable energy sources.
The Ministry of Energy notes that the development of wind plants will also help the country diversify its electricity production sources and increase the share of renewable energy.
As of June 2026, the share of renewable energy reached 45% compared to 33.6% a year earlier.
