In Uzbekistan, they have learned to "store" sun and wind

The capacity of solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan has exceeded 6.3 GW. Now the country is scaling up energy storage systems to avoid losing daytime generation and to use it during evening peak hours. Currently, 26 storage projects with a total capacity of 4.2 GW have been established, 17 of which are already being implemented. Uzbekistan has learned to "store" sun and wind

The capacity of solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan has already exceeded 6.3 GW. Now the country is increasing its energy storage systems to avoid losing daytime generation and to use it during evening peak hours.

Currently, 26 storage projects with a total capacity of 4.2 GW have been formed, 17 of which are already under implementation.

The operating principle of the system is simple: energy generated by the sun and wind during the day is accumulated, and in the evening it enters the grid. This helps reduce the need for additional generation at gas-fired power plants and decrease gas consumption.

The authorities propose to launch new energy storage projects by 2030. This was discussed during a September presentation of electric power industry prospects to the head of state.
