Uzbekistan to clarify registration deadlines for foreign citizens

The bill provides for a transition to calculating the registration periods for foreigners in calendar days and updating the terminology in the field of migration.

Uzbekistan to clarify registration deadlines for foreign citizens

Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan have approved in the first reading a draft law on amendments and additions to certain legislative acts aimed at improving the activities of migration and personalization units.

The document provides for clarifying the registration deadlines for foreign citizens and stateless persons at their place of stay. In particular, it is proposed to replace the deadlines measured in months under current legislation with deadlines measured in calendar days.

As stated in the draft law, this approach will allow for a more precise determination of registration deadlines and eliminate ambiguous interpretation of the relevant norms in practice.

In addition, it is proposed to amend a number of legislative acts to bring the powers of state bodies and their names in the field of migration and personalization into line with the current organizational structure.

In particular, it is proposed to replace the term "migration and citizenship processing" with the formulation "migration and personalization." This is intended to ensure uniform application of terminology in legislation.

According to the deputies, the adoption of the draft law will contribute to preventing illegal labor activities by foreign citizens and stateless persons, increasing the efficiency of public services in the field of migration, and harmonizing legislative norms.
