Uzbekistan thanks India for its support of WTO accession
In a joint statement, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Narendra Modi agreed to cooperate in preserving the multilateral trading system based on the WTO and to conduct a feasibility study for a preferential trade agreement.
Uzbekistan expressed gratitude to India for its assistance in its accession to the World Trade Organization. This information is contained in a joint communiqué published following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Uzbekistan on August 29–30, 2026.
According to the document, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to work together to support and defend the multilateral trading system, with the WTO at its core, paying particular attention to the interests of developing countries. The leaders also expressed their readiness to support initiatives aimed at strengthening production and export capacity, stimulating dialogue between regulatory bodies, and exploring the possibility of concluding mutual recognition agreements to facilitate and expedite market access in both countries.
The statement emphasized that Mirziyoyev and Modi noted with satisfaction the steady growth in mutual trade volumes and confirmed their intention to continue expanding and diversifying trade ties to build stronger trade relations. Referring to the completion of a joint feasibility study for a preferential trade agreement between Uzbekistan and India, the leaders instructed relevant agencies to develop further steps in this direction within the specified timeframe.
