Uzbekistan spent over 2 billion dollars on modernizing its power grids

Uzbekistan has directed over 2 billion dollars toward modernizing its power grids
Over the past five years, more than 2 billion dollars have been allocated for the renovation of Uzbekistan's power grids. Now, the next task is the modernization of networks and the development of energy storage systems.
This became known during an open dialogue between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and investors in the fuel and energy sector. As reported by the press secretary of the head of state, Sherzod Asadov, it is planned to build 5 thousand kilometers of power lines and 16 major substations by 2030.
At the same time, there are plans to increase energy storage capacity to 4.5 gigawatts. The main portion of the projects will take place in Karakalpakstan, as well as the Bukhara, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Namangan, Kashkadarya, and Tashkent regions.
Priority will be given to comprehensive projects that encompass generation, storage, and networks. For long-term energy storage, cooperation with investors is planned for the construction of pumped-storage hydroelectric stations.
Uzbekistan is not limiting itself to the domestic market. The project to supply "green" energy to Europe via the Caspian Sea, together with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, is moving into the practical phase. The markets of Afghanistan and South Asia were also named as promising directions.
