Uzbekistan rises two places in Global Innovation Index

Uzbekistan has risen two positions in the Global Innovation Index

Uzbekistan ranked 77th in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2026, improving its result by two positions compared to the previous year. The ranking by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) features 139 countries.

A year earlier, Uzbekistan was in 79th place. In 2026, the country also improved its performance in innovation outputs, rising from 92nd to 78th place. In terms of the volume of resources and investments directed into innovation, Uzbekistan ranked 68th, compared to 69th a year earlier.

In the ranking of lower-middle-income countries, Uzbekistan took eighth place out of 36, and among the states of Central and Southern Asia, it ranked fourth out of 11.

Uzbekistan achieved its highest positions in individual indicators related to science, entrepreneurship, and labor productivity. In particular, the country ranked second in the world in the number of graduates in science and engineering, third in entrepreneurial policy and culture, fourth in startup and scaleup funding, and seventh in labor productivity growth.

At the same time, the declared goal is to enter the top 60 leading innovative countries in the world by 2030.

Earlier, Uzbekistan rose by 32 positions in the PISA-2025 ranking for scientific literacy, taking 48th place among 91 countries and educational systems.
