Uzbekistan prevents $45.4mn in excessive spending on transport projects in 9M26
Uzbekistan prevented UZS 544.2bn ($45.4mn) in excessive spending on transport construction and repair projects in January–September 2026 through reviews of project documentation, while prosecutorial oversight also identified a further UZS 61.57bn ($5.14mn) in unnecessary expenditure under the Initiative Budget program.

Uzbekistan stopped UZS 544.2bn ($45.4mn) in excessive spending on construction and repair work in the transport sector in January-September 2026, Transport Prosecutor's Office representative Hulkar Mansurova said on October 31.
Mansurova said the construction headquarters of the Transport Prosecutor's Office examined the design and estimated documentation for 37 projects included in state programs and set to start construction this year. That review led to the prevention of UZS 544.2bn ($45.4mn) in unnecessary spending.
In a separate case, 945 projects were chosen in the first round of the 2026 Initiative Budget program, with UZS 1.49 trillion ($124.4mn) earmarked for the construction and repair of 2,501 km of local roads.
Construction has been finished and the facilities put into operation at 821 sites, while work is still ongoing at the other 124.
Supervision under the program also prevented another UZS 61.57bn ($5.14mn) in unwarranted spending. At the same time, customers submitted court claims to recover UZS 5.9bn ($492,600) in penalties from contractors responsible for 52 facilities that had not been commissioned.
During the reporting period, the Transport Prosecutor's Office issued 3,350 prosecutorial oversight documents and opened 97 criminal cases over serious violations.
Recorded crimes in areas under the office's supervision fell by 15% compared with the same period in 2025. Authorities recovered UZS 62.71bn ($5.24mn) in damages caused by these crimes.
Railway safety checks also uncovered 23,517 administrative violations, with fines of more than UZS 1.661bn ($138,600) imposed.
As a result of prosecutorial supervision measures, 655 people were disciplined and 643 were held administratively liable. The rights of 1,067 citizens and 62 legal entities were also restored.
Meanwhile, transport sector investment projects drew $743.5mn in foreign investment in January-September, exceeding the target by 6%.
Earlier, Uzbekistan said it planned to allocate $442mn to the road sector in 2026, including the construction and reconstruction of 200 km of highways. In the first nine months of the year, 110 km of highways were reconstructed under nine projects. Work worth $214.3mn was completed, equal to 101% of the planned target.
