$442 million will be allocated to roads in 2026, with 200 km of highways to be built
Uzbekistan plans to invest $442 million in the road sector in 2026 and to build and reconstruct 200 kilometers of highways.
This year, 15 projects are being carried out: 13 with international financial institutions and two through public-private partnerships. Planned disbursements are 1.5 times higher than in 2025 and 1.8 times higher than in 2024.
From January through September, 110 kilometers of highway were reconstructed under nine projects. Work worth $214.3 million was completed, which is 101% of the plan.
Ongoing projects include the reconstruction of a 111-kilometer section of the 4R105 and 4R100 highways in Surkhandarya province and 25 kilometers of the A380 highway in Karakalpakstan, both with the Asian Development Bank. The Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund are supporting a 60-kilometer section of the M39 highway in Kashkadarya province. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is involved in a 78-kilometer section of the A380 highway in Bukhara province.
Tenders have been announced for five additional projects, including the reconstruction of 92 kilometers of the A380 highway in Karakalpakstan, backed by the Asian Development Bank. Another project covers 84 kilometers of the D213 highway in Khorezm province, with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Construction has started on four of the five.
Officials have held meetings with more than 50 foreign partners to attract investment. Cooperation is continuing with international financial institutions and with companies from Turkey, Germany, Japan and China.
Earlier, it was reported that a 100-kilometer, two-level toll ring road worth $1 billion is planned around Tashkent. The project could involve China Railway Construction.
