Uzbekistan Prepares for Presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement

The delegation of Uzbekistan, led by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sodik Safoev, took part in the High-Level Commemorative Meeting dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement. The event took place in Belgrade on August 31 – September 1.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking representatives from more than 30 foreign countries. Among them were delegations led by presidents and heads of government, speakers of parliament, deputy prime ministers, and ministers.

Opening the event, the President of Serbia emphasized the historical significance of Belgrade as the venue for the first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1961. According to him, the core principles of the movement remain relevant today.

In the speech of the head of the Uzbek delegation, the role of the Non-Aligned Movement in modern international relations was noted, and priorities were outlined ahead of Uzbekistan's presidency of the organization in 2027–2030.

Among the key areas highlighted were the initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, presented at international platforms. They concern ensuring peace and security, developing economic cooperation, interaction in the field of climate change, and working with youth.

Within the framework of the meeting, talks were held between the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and the delegation of Uzbekistan.

The parties noted the dynamic development of multifaceted Uzbek-Serbian relations based on the active political dialogue maintained by the presidents of the two countries.

Special attention was paid to the further expansion of inter-parliamentary ties, as well as cooperation in the economy, investment, and trade. The parties also discussed the implementation of joint projects.

In addition, the representatives of Uzbekistan held meetings with the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Marina Raguš and other heads of foreign delegations.
