Uzbekistan launches program for eco-entrepreneurs

Over 100 entrepreneurs have begun a free six-week UNDP programme on circular economy and waste management.

A new program for eco-entrepreneurs has launched in Uzbekistan.

A six-week free educational program has been launched in Uzbekistan as part of the UNDP project "Promoting Circular Economy and Waste Management in Cities." It is designed for entrepreneurs, startup founders, and the self-employed, according to the UN Development Programme.

More than 100 people are participating in the program, which is being held in Tashkent, Angren, and Nukus. Importantly, at least half of the participants are women.

The training includes 12 practical workshops and mentoring support from experienced trainers. Participants will also have the chance to compete for a grant of up to $10,000 to launch their own business.

This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development. The project supports the "Uzbekistan 2030" strategy and contributes to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Specifically, the program addresses SDG 5 "Gender Equality," which aims to empower women and girls; SDG 8 "Decent Work and Economic Growth," which aims to promote sustainable economic growth, employment, and decent work; SDG 11 "Sustainable Cities and Communities," which aims to create safe, inclusive, and sustainable cities; SDG 12 "Responsible Consumption and Production," which promotes sustainable patterns of production and consumption; and SDG 17 "Partnerships for Sustainable Development," which aims to strengthen cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
