Uzbekistan launched its first hot air balloon since independence. Video

For the first time since independence, Uzbekistan launched an aerological balloon.

A test launch of an aerological balloon equipped with a modern weather balloon was conducted in the Bukhara region. The collected data is intended to improve the accuracy of weather forecasting, provide timely warnings of hazardous natural phenomena, and enhance meteorological support for aviation and agriculture.

The launch took place at the Yakkatut agrometeorological station in the Bukhara region.

The weather balloon, mounted on the balloon, records air temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, as well as wind speed and direction at various altitudes in real time during flight. All information collected is immediately transmitted to the ground station.

Such observations provide forecasters with critical data. They contribute to the creation of atmospheric maps, improve forecast accuracy, promptly identify hazardous hydrometeorological phenomena, and provide reliable information to aviation, agriculture, and other sectors. Experts note that during the Soviet era, similar upper-air balloons were regularly launched twice daily in several cities in Uzbekistan. This practice was eventually discontinued. Such observations currently continue, for example, in Kazakhstan, where upper-air stations operate at several sites.

The launch in the Bukhara region is expected to be more than a one-off event, but rather the beginning of regular upper-air observations, which will improve the quality of weather forecasts in the country and allow for more effective monitoring of atmospheric processes.

As a reminder, Uzbekistan plans to begin artificially inducing rain to combat drought.
