Uzbekistan among top three gold buyers in September
In September 2026, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan purchased 7 tons of gold, joining the world's top three buyers of the precious metal. Over the month, global central banks increased their gold reserves by a total of 61 tons, marking the highest monthly figure since the beginning of the year.
According to the World Gold Council, Poland and China bought the most gold. Besides Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Jordan, the Czech Republic, and Bolivia also increased their gold holdings.
Since the beginning of 2026, net gold purchases by global central banks have reached 228 tons. This is 7% less than during the same period last year. At the same time, Uzbekistan continues to build up its reserves, with the Central Bank having acquired an additional 8 tons of the precious metal in August.
It was previously reported that in July, Uzbekistan, by contrast, was among the largest gold sellers, having sold 1 ton. At that time, net purchases by global central banks totaled 23 tons.
