Uzbekistan became the strongest national team in Central Asia at the 2026 Asian Games

The national team of Uzbekistan took fifth place at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning 70 medals. Among the countries of Central Asia, the Uzbeks showed the best result, ahead of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan.

Uzbekistan's medal tally included 21 gold, 25 silver, and 24 bronze medals.

Kazakhstan won the most awards in the region — 84, but took eighth place in the overall standings. The Kazakh team secured 12 gold, 24 silver, and 48 bronze medals. The country's delegation consisted of 553 athletes — the largest number among the five Central Asian states.

Tajikistan took third place in the regional comparison. Its athletes won 16 medals — two gold, five silver, and nine bronze. The national team of Kyrgyzstan received 15 awards, and Turkmenistan — one.

Thus, Uzbekistan not only outperformed its neighboring countries in terms of its position in the medal standings but also showed the best result in terms of the ratio of the number of athletes to the number of awards. There were 70 medals for the 392 participants of the Uzbek delegation.
