Uzbekistan and WTO discuss further steps toward the country's accession to the organization

Uzbekistan and the World Trade Organization (WTO) reviewed the progress of negotiations on the country's accession to the organization, as well as further measures to bring national legislation into line with international trade rules.

The meeting took place on November 3. It was attended by a delegation led by Sung-yo Choi, Chairman of the Working Party on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, and Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Ahadbek Khaydarov.

The parties discussed the current status of the negotiation process, ongoing economic reforms in the country, and the development of trade and economic ties. Particular attention was paid to improving legislation taking into account the requirements of the international trading system.

A significant part of the talks concerned the agricultural sector. Participants reviewed reforms in agriculture, terms of trade in agricultural products, and issues of financial support for the sector in the context of WTO accession.

In addition, the regulation of the services sector, the application of international trade standards, and the expansion of economic cooperation with Central Asian countries, including the development of regional integration, were discussed.

Following the meeting, the parties exchanged views on further steps aimed at advancing negotiations on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO, expanding foreign trade opportunities, and strengthening regional economic cooperation.
