Uzbekistan has answered more than 400 questions from countries regarding WTO membership

Today, November 3, the accession process to the World Trade Organization, negotiation results, legislative reforms, and next steps were discussed at the Content Center.

The press conference was attended by the Chairman of the Working Party on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO, Ambassador Yun Sung-deok, the Director of the Accessions Division of the organization's Secretariat, Maika Oshikawa, as well as representatives of state agencies.

It was reported at the event that the 12th and 13th meetings of the Working Party were held in 2026. During these meetings, responses were provided to more than 400 questions from member countries, and over 30 documents were submitted.

It was also noted that significant results were achieved in bilateral negotiations on market access for goods and services.

As part of aligning Uzbekistan's legislation with WTO agreements, more than 200 normative-legal documents have been adopted and improved since 2023.

These covered the liberalization of foreign trade, the abolition of exclusive rights of state-owned enterprises, technical regulation, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and the harmonization of customs procedures with international requirements.

The press conference also addressed the completion of the remaining negotiations, agreeing on the commitments in the draft Working Party report, and finalizing the membership documents.

It was emphasized at the event that WTO membership serves to expand foreign trade opportunities, improve the investment climate, enhance the competitiveness of the national economy, and deepen the country's integration into the global economy.
