As part of the Global Tax Program (GTP), a meeting with experts from a World Bank technical assistance mission was held at the Tax Committee of Uzbekistan. The mission's working visit will take place from August 24 to 28, 2026, according to the Tax Committee of Uzbekistan.
The talks were attended by World Bank representatives, led by Lead Governance Specialist and Project Manager Jan Löprik, and specialists from the Tax Committee. The focus was on further improving tax administration and implementing advanced digital solutions.
Specifically, the participants discussed the development of the Tax Data Processing and Storage Center infrastructure, expanding information exchange between agencies, and improving mechanisms for analyzing value-added tax and electronic invoicing data.
A separate focus was on the development of a risk-based tax audit system. The parties discussed the further application of modern approaches to data analysis and improving the efficiency of tax administration.
The World Bank has long been a key international partner of the Tax Committee in implementing reforms. This collaboration resulted in the implementation of a large-scale project to modernize tax administration, which included the automation of core business processes, the development of data processing infrastructure, the reduction of the shadow economy, and the strengthening of the institutional capacity of tax authorities.
With the support of the World Bank, international seminars and expert events are also regularly held on digital taxation, e-commerce, tax gap analysis, and the use of modern technologies in tax administration.
The previously implemented project has been fully completed. The parties are currently completing the necessary legal procedures for its completion, while collaboration continues within the framework of the Global Tax Program.
Following the meeting, the Tax Committee and the World Bank confirmed their interest in further cooperation and joint work on the digital transformation of tax administration in Uzbekistan.
