Uzbekistan and the WHO discussed healthcare reforms
Uzbekistan's Minister of Health Eldor Adilov and Hans Kluge discussed the industry's development strategy and cooperation with the WHO.
Uzbekistan and the World Health Organization (WHO) held talks on reforming the country's healthcare system.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, Health Minister Eldor Adilov held a videoconference with Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe. During the meeting, the parties discussed the long-term prospects for the development of Uzbekistan's healthcare system.
Minister Adilov expressed gratitude to the WHO for its support of healthcare reforms. He noted that with the organization's assistance, important initiatives are being implemented in Uzbekistan, including programs to protect maternal and child health, improve primary health care, and implement a national health insurance system.
Particular attention was paid to the development of the draft "Healthcare 2035" strategy. Eldor Adilov emphasized the importance of WHO's international experience and expert support in the development of this document and proposed intensifying cooperation to attract the necessary specialists.
The parties also discussed preparations for the 77th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe in Uzbekistan.
Participants also discussed issues related to the development and implementation of the DRG (Diagnostic Linked Group) system. Work under the donor agreement between the State Health Insurance Fund and the WHO Representative Office in Uzbekistan was also discussed. According to the Ministry of Health, this project aims to improve the financing and payment mechanisms for medical services, as well as to increase the efficiency and transparency of the system.
The meeting also discussed prospects for cooperation within the framework of the "Roadmap 2.0" for health and well-being in Central Asia for the period 2026–2030. The parties explored the possibility of aligning the objectives outlined in this document with ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan's healthcare system.
Following the talks, the parties confirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation and continuing the implementation of joint projects and initiatives.
