Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency plan to implement 11 projects worth 1.1 billion euros

On September 25, consultations were held in Tashkent between the Government of Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency (AFD).

During the meeting, the main areas of cooperation for 2027–2030 were determined. In particular, energy transition and decarbonization, water supply, agriculture, sustainable urban development, private sector support, and improving public financial management were highlighted as priority areas.

An indicative portfolio consisting of 11 projects with a total estimated value of 1.125 billion euros was presented during the consultations. It covers the modernization of energy and transport infrastructure, urban development, irrigation and agriculture, the "green" economy, and the expansion of non-sovereign financing.

Among the major initiatives are the rehabilitation of the Tashkent—Samarkand railway line and the development of Tashkent public transport.

The parties also intend to accelerate work on modernizing drinking water supply systems in the Kashkadarya region, reconstructing the "Suyenli" canal in Karakalpakstan, implementing projects in the Aral Sea region, and upgrading heating networks.

Currently, nine projects with a total value of 604.2 million euros are being prepared in cooperation between Uzbekistan and the AFD.

Since 2015, the AFD has approved 17 projects in Uzbekistan with a total value of nearly 1.6 billion euros. The current portfolio includes 13 projects worth 1.29 billion euros in energy, water supply and sanitation, livestock, digitalization, the financial sector, and other areas.

The volume of disbursed funds has reached nearly 1 billion euros, or 78 percent of the total value of the signed agreements. In addition, more than 55 million euros in grant funds have been attracted jointly with the European Union and the French government.

The agreements reached at the end of the negotiations were consolidated in the protocol of consultations and placed under joint monitoring. The next consultations are planned to be held in France.
