Uzbekistan and Pakistan discussed raising mutual trade volume to $2 billion

Uzbekistan and Pakistan reviewed mechanisms for implementing the set task of increasing mutual trade volume to $2 billion.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtayev, met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilal Hayee. During the negotiations, issues of intensifying political dialogue, expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation, developing trade, economic, and investment ties, as well as strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation were discussed.

Bilal Hayee noted that a stable political dialogue and reliable relations have been established in the relations between the two countries. According to him, positive dynamics are being observed in the areas of trade, economic, transport, tourism, and interregional cooperation.

"I am well aware of the reforms being implemented and the results achieved under the leadership of Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Tashkent is one of Islamabad's key partners in the region," said the Deputy Foreign Minister of Pakistan.

He described the "Babur Garden" being built in Islamabad at the initiative of Shavkat Mirziyoyev as a symbol of the common history and friendship of the two peoples.

The parties noted the need to eliminate transport and logistics constraints and activate contacts between the business communities of the two countries to bring the trade volume to $2 billion.

Special attention was also paid to interregional cooperation issues during the meeting. The Pakistani side positively assessed this year's visits by the leaders of the Tashkent and Navoiy regions, as well as Karakalpakstan.

The issue of expanding mutual travel of citizens was also discussed. It was noted that the number of direct flights between Uzbekistan and Pakistan has currently reached eight, and further increasing the flights would facilitate travel for tourists and entrepreneurs.

In conclusion, the parties agreed to continue diplomatic dialogue and discuss practical measures aimed at realizing the existing potential for cooperation.

This was caused by the closure of trade corridors passing through Afghanistan and the resurgence of hostilities between Iran and the US.
