Uzbekistan and Mordovia to expand cooperation in the agricultural sector

Uzbekistan and Mordovia discussed agricultural product supplies, food industry development, and joint livestock projects.

Uzbekistan and the Republic of Mordovia of the Russian Federation intend to expand cooperation in the agro-industrial complex. Issues related to agriculture, the food industry, and livestock farming were discussed during a meeting between Uzbek Agriculture Minister Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov and an official delegation from Mordovia, led by the regional governor, Artem Zdunov. This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for developing trade relations in agricultural and food products, establishing direct contacts between enterprises in the two regions, and implementing joint projects. Particular attention was paid to improving the effectiveness of previously reached agreements.

The volume of agricultural and food trade between Uzbekistan and Russia is showing steady growth. By the end of 2025, this figure reached $2.3 billion, a 26.7% increase compared to the previous year. From January to July 2026, trade volume amounted to $1.55 billion, an increase of 31.7% compared to the same period in 2025.

The meeting discussed opportunities for further increasing trade turnover through projects involving Mordovian enterprises. Specifically, they discussed sugar supplies, promoting Uzbek fruit and vegetable products in Russian retail chains, and establishing direct links between food industry companies.

A separate area of cooperation was dedicated to collaboration with the Romodanovosakhar enterprise. The parties explored the possibility of increasing the volume of its products supplied to the Uzbek market.

Furthermore, representatives from Uzbekistan and Mordovia discussed cooperation in livestock farming. Plans call for leveraging the Russian region's experience in dairy and beef farming, improving livestock productivity, and implementing modern feeding technologies.

The parties also explored the potential for joint projects to train specialists for the agricultural sector. Thus, cooperation is planned to develop not only in trade but also in production, technology, and personnel training.

Following the talks, the participants emphasized the importance of strengthening direct ties between enterprises in Uzbekistan and Mordovia and translating the agreements reached into concrete projects. Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov expressed the Ministry of Agriculture’s readiness to support initiatives of mutual interest.
