Uzbekistan and Korea agreed to elevate their special strategic partnership to a new level
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks in Seoul with the President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung in a narrow format and with the participation of official delegations.
During the meeting, issues of further developing and strengthening the Uzbekistan–Korea special strategic partnership were reviewed in detail.
The parties identified expanding cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, critical minerals, transport, and infrastructure as a priority task.
It was noted that the volume of investments attracted from Korea into the economy of Uzbekistan has exceeded 8 billion dollars. More than 700 joint ventures with the participation of Korean capital are operating in the country.
Within the framework of the current visit, promising projects with a total value of nearly 12 billion dollars have been prepared. Additionally, a Strategic Cooperation Program worth 8 billion dollars was adopted with the Eximbank of Korea.
The presidents paid special attention to forming an innovative and technological alliance based on Korea's advanced technologies and Uzbekistan's resource and industrial potential.
The introduction of high-tech and digital solutions in the fields of information technology, cybersecurity, medicine, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals was identified as priority areas.
Issues of developing military-technical cooperation, expanding inter-agency relations, holding joint events, and training military specialists were also discussed.
The parties also agreed to expand interregional cooperation. The results of the first Interregional Forum held between the two countries were highly praised, and it was decided to hold the next forum in the city of Samarkand.
Special attention was also paid to education and personnel training issues during the negotiations. Currently, four branches of South Korean universities and five vocational training centers established with the support of KOICA are operating in Uzbekistan.
In order to further strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties, an agreement was reached to declare 2027 as the "Year of Culture and Mutual Exchanges" and to hold joint events.
At the conclusion of the negotiations, the closeness of the positions of the two sides on issues of regional and international significance was also confirmed.
