Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will establish cooperation within the "Clean Air" project

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Build Cooperation Within the Framework of the "Clean Air" Project

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are strengthening cooperation within the framework of the "Clean Air" initiative. During negotiations, the parties discussed issues of improving ambient air quality and forming an Interstate Consortium.

As reported by the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, a meeting of working groups took place on October 23 in Astana. The Uzbek delegation was led by the Vice Chairman of the committee, Iskandar Kutbiddinov. It included representatives from the National Center on Climate Change, the Agency for Hydrometeorological Service, and the Hydrometeorological Research Institute. The Kazakh side was represented by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Alibek Kuantyrov.

The parties reviewed the development of cooperation in the field of atmospheric air protection, the improvement of monitoring, and joint study of sources of transboundary pollution. Special attention was paid to the creation of the "Clean Air" consortium as a tool for coordinating efforts.

Participants emphasized the importance of preparing a roadmap for 2026–2030 and organizing the prompt exchange of monitoring data. Implementation of the agreements reached will increase the efficiency of environmental information exchange and develop coordinated approaches to solving the problem of transboundary pollution.

Within the framework of the nationwide "Clean Air" project, an indefinite moratorium on the creation of new industrial zones was introduced in Tashkent starting April 1, 2026. The only exceptions will be sites oriented towards the service sector and the financial sector.
