Uzbekistan and GEF Discussed New Agricultural Projects

Uzbekistan and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) reviewed the outcomes of joint environmental initiatives and outlined potential areas for further cooperation in sustainable agricultural development.

A meeting between Nuriddin Koshnazarov, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, and representatives of the GEF Independent Evaluation Office, Ksenia Temnenko and Martin Prowse, was dedicated to analyzing the effectiveness of projects implemented with the fund's support.

The parties discussed the progress of the CACILM-2, FOLUR, LDN, and CAWLN projects. These programs address issues of sustainable land use, soil degradation prevention, landscape restoration, and agricultural adaptation to climate change.

In addition, approaches to more efficient land and water resource management, as well as the implementation of best practices and innovative solutions, were considered.

Special attention was given to the prospects of preparing new joint projects and expanding cooperation.

An important part of the discussion included the findings and recommendations to be prepared following the independent evaluation of the fund's activities in Uzbekistan.

The results of the evaluation are expected to help incorporate the identified findings into the development of future initiatives, the improvement of project activities, and the enhancement of the effectiveness of programs aimed at the sustainable development of the country's agricultural sector.
