Uzbek variety, Andijon machinery: Garlic cultivation has begun in Belarus

In the Vitebsk region of Belarus, "Red May" winter garlic brought from Uzbekistan is being planted on an experimental basis. An area of 2.5 hectares has been allocated for the project, in which Uzbek agronomists are participating. The initial harvest is planned to be gathered in July 2027.

Uzbek variety, Andijan machinery: Garlic cultivation launched in Belarus

According to the "Dunyo" Information Agency, citing Belarusian media, the experiment is being conducted in the fields of the "Olgovskoye" production cooperative in the Vitebsk district. This variety brought from Uzbekistan is being planted on this farm for the first time.

A fertile field with soft soil was chosen for planting the garlic. The planting process is being jointly supervised by Uzbek agronomists and local specialists.

Special planting machinery from the "Texmash" joint venture, operating in the Andijan region, is being used for the work.

Specialists aim to determine which planting method yields the highest harvest in the Belarusian climate. For this reason, two-row planting schemes of 75 centimeters and three-row planting schemes of 40 centimeters are being tested.

According to Olga Yakovleva, chief agronomist of the "Olgovskoye" cooperative, the development of the planted garlic will be systematically monitored. The first harvest is planned to be gathered in July next year.

This season, Uzbek garlic is also expected to be planted in the fields of the L. Dovator Ulla State College.

The agency noted that agricultural cooperation between the Vitebsk region and the regions of Uzbekistan, particularly Andijan, is intensifying. Earlier, it was reported that 2 thousand hectares of land were allocated to Uzbek farmers in the Vitebsk region for growing potatoes, and joint livestock projects were launched.
