Uzbek and world boxing legend Rufat Risqiyev dies at 76

The first Uzbek boxer to win the world championship.

Rufat Risqiyev, a legendary figure in Uzbek and world boxing, known as the "Tashkent Tiger", passed away at the age of 76.

Rufat Asadovich Risqiyev was born on October 2, 1949 in the city of Okkurgan, Tashkent region. He went down in history as the first Uzbek athlete to win the 1974 World Championship and become the world champion in boxing. It is also known to the general public that Rufat Risqiyev was a finalist in the 1976 Olympic Games.

Since 2019, the tradition of presenting the Rufat Risqiyev Prize to the best participant in the Uzbekistan Boxing Championship has been introduced.
