"Uzatom": Construction of the NPP in Jizzakh is on schedule

The construction of the integrated nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan is proceeding according to approved schedules, with no delays in the work stages.
Following the start of the first concrete pouring, work using approximately 915 cubic meters of concrete has already been completed at the site. Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, Director of the Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers ("Uzatom"), shared this in an interview with the O’zbekiston 24 television channel.
According to Akhmedkhadjaev, a specific instruction from the president concerned the accelerated creation of the external infrastructure necessary for the construction of the plant. After the head of state gave the start to the pouring of the foundation, construction work at the site has continued in accordance with the established deadlines.
"By the end of the year, we will already move on to the next stages of concrete pouring, which is several thousand more cubic meters of concrete. Everything is being carried out in accordance with the schedule, and we will complete everything on time," said the head of "Uzatom."
He also noted that construction is being carried out in compliance with international standards. According to Akhmedkhadjaev, another mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recently visited Uzbekistan.
The head of "Uzatom" emphasized that the necessary modern nuclear infrastructure has already been formed in the country. At the same time, work directly on the construction site continues taking into account international requirements and standards.
The integrated NPP project is being implemented in a new configuration, which "Uzatom" and "Rosatom" agreed upon in September 2025. It provides for the simultaneous construction of two high-capacity power units and two low-capacity units.
According to the supplementary agreement, the major part of the plant will include two power units with VVER-1000 Generation 3+ reactors. The small NPP will consist of two power units with RITM-200N reactors with a capacity of 55 MW each.
The total capacity of the integrated plant will exceed 2.1 GW, of which 2 GW will come from the large power units and 110 MW from the small ones.
The key stage of the small NPP construction began in October, when excavation of soil for the foundation pit of the power unit with the RITM-200N reactor started at the site in the Jizzakh region.
In March, the first concrete works began at the construction site. As part of this stage, the base of the reactor building foundation must be prepared with waterproofing and a grounding system.
On June 4, a groundbreaking ceremony for the first power unit of the integrated NPP took place in the Farish district of the Jizzakh region.
The symbolic pouring of the first concrete marked the official start of the plant's construction.
In parallel, Uzbekistan and Russia signed a supplementary agreement to the contract for the construction of the integrated NPP, securing the updated configuration of the project with high- and low-capacity units.
