US is preparing to deploy a permanent military base in Poland — Trump

The US is preparing to deploy a permanent US Army base in Poland. US President Donald Trump announced this on his Truth Social page.

"Thanks to the strong leadership of my friend, Polish President Karol Nawrocki, significant progress has been made in deploying a US Army base in Poland," he wrote.

Trump said the location of the base will most likely be announced in the near future.

"This will be a historic step for our great American-Polish alliance. Thank you for your attention to this matter," the US President added.

The presence of the American military in Poland is not new — there are currently about 10,000 US service members there.

However, the majority of this contingent serves on a rotational basis as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve — the units are not permanently stationed in Poland, but are regularly replaced.

The idea of a permanent base has been discussed for more than just a year — in 2018, Warsaw proposed hosting a base called "Fort Trump," but the matter did not progress beyond declarations and joint exercises.
