Unfastened seatbelts will now also be detected by business-installed cameras

Starting November 1 in Uzbekistan, drivers wearing unfastened seatbelts are also allowed to be captured by cameras installed by entrepreneurs. According to the traffic rules, both the driver and front-seat passengers must wear seatbelts; however, in 4.5 years, a law on fines for passengers has never been enacted.

Unfastened seatbelts will now also be recorded by cameras installed by businesses

From November 1, the Government of Uzbekistan permitted the recording of unfastened seatbelts on drivers using photo and video cameras for recording Traffic Rules violations installed by entrepreneurs. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice with reference to a resolution dated October 29.

According to the requirements, the fact of the violation must be captured in high-definition photos along with the driver's face. Data on the date and time of the violation, as well as the exact coordinates of the location, must be automatically transmitted to the "Administrative Practice" system.

As with the Road Traffic Safety Department (RTSD) cameras, the recording devices must be equipped with a backup power supply system for at least 8 hours in case of a power outage.

Traffic rules violation recording devices began registering unfastened seatbelts in October 2023.

Since May 2022, the Traffic Rules stipulate that both the driver and front-seat passengers must fasten their seatbelts before starting to move. However, after 4.5 years, a fine for an unfastened seatbelt for passengers has still not been introduced into the legislation.

The use of seatbelts in the rear seats, as well as special seats for children under 7 years old and special restraint systems for children aged 7–12, remains advisory only in Uzbekistan.
