So far, it remains unclear who was responsible for this. Both Elon Musk and the White House state that they have nothing to do with it. Congress is launching an investigation.

Ukrainian military unable to use Starlink for a day. Who is responsible?

On the morning of October 14, the Ukrainian military began reporting restrictions in the operation of Starshield — the military version of Starlink necessary to provide communications for high-speed drones. Volodymyr Zelensky's adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov, hinting at a conflict between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump, stated that "this could not be a coincidence and is connected to the current political situation." On the morning of October 15, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense announced that the system had resumed working.

At the same time, no one in the US wants to take responsibility for Starlink being shut off.

This is their decision. This is a big mistake. There might also be a technical reason. If the attacks continue and Starlink doesn't work, people will die. We ask them to turn everything back on. That would be fair.

Starshield is controlled by the US government. Any restrictions on speed or use are set by the military and the US President.

The US President's administration is not involved in the disruptions that occurred in Starlink's operation.

We do not answer questions about Starlink. The President remains firm in his decision to play a constructive role in ending the war.

I do not expect Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to show transparency, which is why we are launching a Congressional investigation. In the best-case scenario, this was an unacceptable mistake, and in the worst-case scenario — a deliberate decision aimed at creating an opening for a Russian attack.
