Two planes collided in the sky over Uruguay. One pilot was killed
In Uruguay, a pilot died after two small planes collided in mid-air during aerobatic training. The incident occurred on October 28 near Guazuvirá, in the Canelones Department. One of the aircraft made an emergency landing, while the second crashed in a wooded area.
The deceased was 58-year-old Daniel Ubillos, a former Uruguayan Air Force serviceman. He was piloting a Rihn DR-109 aircraft, which crashed to the ground after the collision. The pilot of the second plane managed to return to the Green airfield and land the aircraft; according to local media, he sustained no physical injuries, but was in a state of shock.
Both pilots were practicing aerobatic maneuvers ahead of an event scheduled for the coming days. According to a representative of the aerobatic team, the planes made contact before the crash. The official causes of the accident have not yet been established.
Police officers and specialists from the Civil Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Board worked at the scene. The investigation is being conducted by the Uruguayan Air Force.
A day earlier in Spain, at least 50 people were killed and more than 179 others injured when two high-speed trains collided.
